So I’ve heard that diversity is key in crypto. A friend lost 3 million in a cold wallet due to user error. If he had split it into multiple wallets, he might have saved half. Is using more than one cold wallet a smart move?
Is having multiple wallets a better safety measure?

Really rare to hear about losses in cold wallets though. But I think there's a difference between errors and mistakes. If the wallet was legit and the seed was backed up, any loss would be user mistake, not the wallet itself.
Totally agree! Different hardware wallets, different brands. If one brand has issues, you don’t lose everything. I’d definitely go for open-source wallets too.

Right? Losing everything is a huge risk. But if someone is prone to messing things up, more wallets might not help much. It could even complicate things if they can’t manage them all.

What do you mean by user error? I think of stuff like not backing up the seed phrase or sending funds to the wrong place. Multiple wallets won’t fix that. Better to have secure backups of your seed.
Sure, splitting funds might have worked for him. But the real issue was his mistake, not the wallet. It’s more essential to avoid making those mistakes in the first place.
That’s not really what diversity means though. Splitting funds across wallets is smarter than keeping it all in one. Still, knowing how to protect it is vital.

Each investor is different, but keeping funds in separate wallets is wise. Just remember, if your main wallet gets compromised, your secondary wallet can too.
Nah, OP got it right. User error means making mistakes. If someone can’t handle one wallet well, multiple could make them lose track.

Having multiple wallets is good practice. One for savings, one for daily use. Just make sure to back up those seed phrases in separate places.
I think multisig is the way to go. Two wallets as cosigners make it much safer. If one gets compromised, your funds are still safe.
Yeah, multiple wallets can help if used wisely. But if you’re careless, it won’t matter much in the end. Let’s hear the full story about that 3 million.
If you don’t expose your seeds, one wallet is fine. They can generate different addresses, so having more might just complicate things.
User error could be typing the wrong key, but using two wallets helps spread your risk. Just remember that managing multiple wallets needs care too.
Totally agree! Splitting your assets is smart for security. Just one mistake can be costly. Multiple wallets just make sense.
You can use multiple cold wallets for sure. It’s about keeping your assets safe from losing everything in one go.
It’s easy to manage separate wallets. If I had a decent amount, I’d split it up too. Not hard to keep track of backups either.
We all need to secure our assets properly. Don’t put everything in one wallet. If one gets attacked, at least some could be saved.
One hardware wallet can hold many addresses, so why not just use one? The issue is figuring out how that friend lost 3 million.
I personally won’t let that happen to me. Been stacking Bitcoin for years and know how to keep it safe.
