So, what happens if you inherit a Binance account when the owner passes away? Let's say the account had $200k in tokens when they died... Can the heirs access that?

From what I know, it's kinda like inheriting anything else, right? You usually need to show proof. Like a will, death certificates, stuff like that.

And taxes? I mean, depending on where you live, the token's value at date of inheritance is usually the basis for taxes, but some places have an inheritance tax.

Yeah, that’s true. But keep in mind that when someone dies, all their contracts nullify. If they had debts, the heirs might have to deal with that too. You should see a lawyer or notary.

Binance does have info on their site about the documents needed, but the key question is who actually gets the crypto? If there was a spouse and kids, do they all get a piece of the pie?

Right? Like, checking with Binance seems kinda silly when we can just hash it out here (not sarcasm at all). But yeah, every country has laws, and once you prove you’re an heir, you can generally do what you want with the funds.

But if the spouse is alive, she usually gets everything unless there’s a will saying otherwise. If kids are minors, she’s first in line.

Exactly! The will's a big deal here. But sometimes folks contest it, and it can get messy... Family disputes over money are no joke.

I think that’s where the will matters. You gotta show you’re legally entitled to the assets. Only the recognized heir can make a claim with the right documents.

Inheritance laws vary a lot. In my country, it’s split equally between spouse, parents, and kids. No marriage contract? Wife gets 50% right off the bat.

In my place it’s the opposite. The wife only gets 1/8, and the kids get the bulk. Seems like this inheritance stuff varies widely by culture.

In my area, the wife gets everything, especially if the kids are minors. If it's a common law marriage, she gets nothing. Better to have family in the will.

I looked into Sharia law. Parents get 1/6, wife gets 1/8. But with debts, they pay first and then the heirs get whatever's left. Totally different process.

Wow, didn’t expect that you studied Islamic law. But yeah, the Quran has some solid inheritance rules, but there’s more to it from various sources.

What’s so surprising about it? Traveling and learning local laws is important! Parents have a right to their inheritance, nobody can take that away.

Exactly! Once kids are involved, the parents are entitled to their share after a death, and it’s equal.

Sounds like as long as you’ve got the needed docs, Binance might cash out the coins for you. You gotta appeal and provide proof of heirship, right?

Yeah, it really helps if the will states clearly how the accounts should be handled. If not, you might need a court affidavit to claim the assets.
