Can Bitcoin Provide True Digital Freedom?

Imagine if bitcoin could really give us digital freedom from oppressive governments. Seems wild, right? But is it really that far-fetched?

For that to happen, we need a specialized blockchain for info sharing. Bitcoin is mainly meant for cash transactions, not for storing data. There are platforms like Hive and Steem that are set up for sharing info, using IPFS for heavy data.

Honestly, trying to build a whole info-sharing system directly on Bitcoin doesn't seem smart. 🤷 Satoshi didn't create it to be some global library. It was meant for decentralized finance, not as a new internet for digital nomads.

Plus, the cost to write data on the Bitcoin blockchain is super high. Using OP_RETURN only gives you 80 bytes, and with billions of users, it’ll just clog the network. Why not just use alternatives?

I think it’s partially possible. Bitcoin can enhance freedom, but it won’t completely eliminate government control.

Are torrent services not good enough? There are encrypted ones on the darknet like Freenet and Lokinet. I doubt Bitcoin should be the one to fix everything.

Bitcoin is primarily decentralized money. Sure, you can store some info on the blockchain, but there are better ways to share media. Bitcoin is for transactions.

Have you heard of Namecoin? It’s been tackling the nameserver issue since 2011. I agree, Bitcoin’s blockchain isn’t fit for that. Maybe look at a second layer solution if you want to tie data to Bitcoin.

Storing data on the blockchain is innovative, but the focus should be on money. I do know about Namecoin, followed it for a bit and even bought some domains back in the day. Not sure about its current status though.

You have a solid point, but wouldn’t that be too ambitious for Bitcoin? The fees for data storage could ruin performance. Bitcoin already solves major financial issues; let’s not complicate it with other use cases.

Totally agree, no reason to overload Bitcoin. It’s doing its job fine. Even for things like betting, it should be built around Bitcoin, not forced into it.

The project is still alive, updated just a few days ago. There’s a team that's active in the crypto space. We don't need to mix domain registrations with Bitcoin's financial data. Bitcoin nodes have a clear mission, let’s not mess that up.
