Is there a standard exchange rate for buying and selling crypto in Africa? Some countries have really bad and unfair rates. Is there any regulatory body to keep things in check?

Africa is really struggling with poverty and hunger. I think blockchain could really empower people there and help them access decent funds. But honestly, I don’t see much news about crypto regulations in Africa. If you want fair prices for your savings, try localbitcoins.

Are you actually from there? If not, you might wanna check out regional forums here. They could give you better answers. Developing countries always have issues with regulations, but I don’t have any concrete info.

Yeah, a lot of African currencies are illiquid or controlled, which makes crypto prices way higher compared to other places. This kinda thing has happened with other currencies too, like INR and CNY. And for BTC, no single entity can moderate its price because of decentralization.

Agreed, capital controls are a big issue in Africa, but the situation varies across countries. I’ve only been in East Africa, but it generally applies to most economies there. You still need a way to convert to USD, that’s where the premium kicks in.

Most African nations rely on USD or CNY for buying stuff because their own currencies are so volatile and inflation rates are crazy. With the US cracking down on crypto regulations, it’s gonna get tougher for Africans to get BTC. VPNs might work for a bit, but not long-term.

Only local governments can really regulate these issues and check if exchanges are following fair pricing. But without legal frameworks, it’s tough to enforce. Sounds like your country lacks competition, which lets others take advantage, right?

Check out coinmarketcap for comparing crypto prices. Just know that prices can vary based on local exchanges. If there aren’t many local exchanges in Africa, competition will be dead, and prices won’t be reasonable for users.
